Colloquia
As 2007 was the bicentennary of the abolition of the slave trade, the colloquium was held at the Wilberforce Institute for Slavery and Emancipation, Hull, with the collaboration of Professor Linda Shields. The theme was oppression and nursing. Papers were presented on a variety of topics from mental deficiency, the subordination of the hospital nurse in the nineteenth century, shell-shock, eugenics and racism.
