Dr Lisbeth Hockey was internationally renowned as a pioneer of nursing research. She initiated a ground-breaking department of community nursing research at the Queen's Institute of District Nursing in the 1960s and went on to be the first Director of the Nursing Research Unit at the University of Edinburgh from 1971-1982. Through her determination to improve patient care she never stopped questioning and challenging routine practice by conducting and promoting research.
