RCN Archives
The Royal College of Nursing has been at the centre of professional nursing since 1916. It has collected books, journals, pamphlets, and papers relating to the history of nursing since the 1920s.
The archives include:
- records of nursing organisations such as the National Council of Nurses and the Society of Registered Male Nurses;
- personal documents such as diaries and lecture notes;
- a unique collection of some ninety English language nursing journals which represent world nursing, they begin in the 1880s and include countries from Australia to Zambia;
- growing collections of photographs, postcards and slides;
- a biographical database;
- an oral history collection (audio tapes);
- nursing badges;
- press cuttings on all aspects of nursing.
The RCN Archives aim to record and preserve materials relating to the professional and social history of nursing and to provide a research resource for scholars and the public.
